After four years with the Great Lake Canadians, Nicholas George arrived on campus at William Penn for his freshman year in late August, an experience he's greatly enjoyed thus far.

His time with GLC was instrumental in his development, helping him develop both as a person and as a player. "The Great Lake Canadians program had a huge impact on me not just on the field but off of it as well. I credit Kirk Barclay, who had the biggest influence. Being the best man I could be came first, and baseball came second. The program also further developed me as a baseball player through extensive routines and practices," said George.

"The coaches at GLC have so much knowledge and love for the game...they can help you be a better player and human being."

While going through the post-secondary decision-making process, George prioritized education and winning, and William Penn appealed to him for those reasons.

The former GLC first-baseman/right-handed pitcher has enjoyed his experience during his time on campus, stating, "my experiences here at William Penn have been amazing. With it being a small campus and school I have gotten to meet so many people here. Also the professors here are super understanding and want to see all of us succeed, and will often provide extra help and guidance when students need it," said George.

The baseball club was able to play intrasquad games this fall, and George found success, at the plate in particular. "It was a really great fall season that ended with our own World Series," said George. "I have never really been outmatched here at school so far hitting .385 as a freshman this fall. My defence is another strength, I save a lot of plays at first base with keeping the baseball in front of me as well as using my knowledge of the game to force outs when the other team isn't expecting it," he said.

"My goals for this upcoming season is to see some playing time. It isn't common for freshmen to play at all in their first season, so being able to do that would be awesome. On the mound, I soon hope to be joining the 90mph club, I'm close topping out at 88mph, so hopefully by next season I will achieve it...I hope to continue to develop my speed and agility here at school," he said.

George's former coach and mentor, Kirk Barclay, spoke highly about George's character and hitting ability; "Nicholas is an upbeat kid that can bring energy to a team. He has always found a way to hit and I'm sure that will continue at William Penn."

George's advice for the next generation is inspirational, using his experience to convey a meaningful message.

"Some advice I would give to younger GLC players is to just trust the process. I know for me, I showed up and worked my butt off every day for an opportunity to play in college. For some people, they get so much of the spotlight and college offers, but it's not about how many offers you get, it's about getting the right offer, and William Penn was mine. Another huge piece to add on to that was how much I trusted in the lord during the whole process. I did a lot of praying over where my future would lead, because for a long time I wasn't sure. However, William Penn became that answer to my future," said Nicholas George - 2020 GLC Grad.
