The top amateur baseball development staff in the country continues to get stronger. The Great Lake Canadians are excited to welcome Jesse Levine to the organization to oversee the addition of a scouting and analytics component to the program. Levine has worked with Prep Baseball Report Ontario for over two years and brings with him an impressive amount of experience to the Canadians. His role within PBR includes writing scouting reports and articles, as well as contributing to social media and uploading statistics, skills that will aid his transition to the GLC program. Great Lake director of player development Adam Stern believes the hire is an opportunity for the program to add another element to help its players.

“Adding Jesse to the GLC staff is a huge asset for the program moving forward into the evolving baseball landscape,” Stern said. “Jesse brings a tremendous passion for baseball and strong work ethic to the table that will help GLC promote its players with a data-driven approach to player evaluation and development while working with our coaching staffs.”

Levine will help the current staff with day-to-day work on the organization’s website, with college recruitment, player development, and scouting. He is excited for a chance to add to his wealth of baseball knowledge as he works with the GLC staff.

“I am most looking forward to working with the staff in helping GLC continue to advance,” he said. “I view this opportunity as a great chance for me to learn and grow, as well.”

Chris Robinson, the Canadians’ director of baseball operations, believes Jesse is a great fit for the program and fits well into a full-time staff that works hard for its players.

“Jesse is an impressive baseball mind,” Robinson said. “He understands the game at its roots but also has a great feel and understanding of a lot of the new information taking over the game. As a relentless worker, he will mix in well with our staff and we look forward to watching him make his mark on the program and continue to help us develop players.”

After getting a glimpse of amateur baseball across the entire province throughout his tenure with PBR, Levine is excited about joining the GLC staff and working toward his goal of continuing to help separating the program from the rest.

“I have always had an immense amount of respect for GLC,” Levine said. “From the players, staff, facility, field, etc., there’s no better organization, and I wanted to be a part of it. I view it as an exciting opportunity to be surrounded by great baseball minds, develop my skills, and contribute to GLC in areas where I feel I could provide significant value. I want to be a part of helping GLC be the best possible organization.”

Levine is a second year recreation and sport business student at the University of Waterloo. The Thornhill, Ont., native developed his passion for the game as a player but quickly realized his love for it extended beyond the white lines.

“I grew up thinking about baseball 24/7, watching and learning about baseball, and nothing has changed since,” he said. “I hope to work in a scouting department with a Major League team and work my way up within an organization. I have a deep passion for scouting, and there’s truly nothing I enjoy doing more.”

The Canadians wrap up their 2020 campaign this weekend and will take two weeks off prior to beginning their fall schedule the week of Labour Day.
