Calvin Ziegler, a right-hander out of Heidelberg, Ontario, is coming off of a special season that concluded with a commitment to play for the Auburn Tigers.

Ziegler's 2020 campaign included attending a handful of premier national events down south, such as the Area Codes, East Coast Pro, Baseball Factory's All-Star Classic as well as the WWBA World Championship. While locally, in what was a shortened CPBL season, he dominated and was also a participant in the league's All-Star Showcase.

Ziegler verbally committed to Auburn University in October, and when asked about what appealed to him about the school, he touched on the opportunity to work with the Tigers' pitching coach, former big league right-hander Tim Hudson, and play in the Southeastern Conference.

"Auburn was a good fit as I am very excited to work with Tim Hudson. I am also excited to compete in the SEC - I think the level of competition I will face there will elevate my game further."

"I also can't wait to be associated with a program like Auburn."

Currently, the right-hander's work is limited to his basement and home's surroundings in Southeastern Ontario. He's been utilizing the indoor space for working out while getting his throwing in outdoors.

"I have a home gym in my basement so I have been able to keep on top of all of my workouts. Where I can throw outside to continue with my throwing program. I am counting down until I can be back at CFS with Fitz [Jon Fitzsimmons]"

Fitzsimmons, GLC's Pitching Coordinator, is someone Ziegler credits for his substantial improvements in such a short period of time since joining GLC, noting velocity and breaking ball improvements as areas where he's progressed the most.

"Working with Fitz really helped me improve my velocity and secondary pitches between March and July of this year. To the point that scouts have been asking what changed with my curveball etc."

When asked about the right-hander, Fitzsimmons had nothing but great things to say, stating, "Cal is a special athlete with special talents. His natural athleticism combined with his growth mindset will take him very far in this game. He could have easily become complacent as the top arm in this country, but he found new ways to grow and improve himself physically and mentally."

"He arrived at GLC with a fastball topping out in the mid-90s and has since added a legitimate changeup, improved command on his fastball, and even a couple of extra MPHs for good measure. Whatever level he ends up at next year, I know he'll dominate."

Coming off of an incredible 2020 season, Ziegler has established himself as a premier amateur pitcher in the country and is excited about "the opportunity to play against high caliber players and work with some top notch coaches" at Auburn University.

Ziegler's advice for upcoming GLC players:

"My advice for up and coming GLC players is to just put the work in. There are no days off and no excuses. Not being able to get to CFS is not a reason to not get workouts in," said Calvin Ziegler, 2021 GLC Grad.
