With college playoffs taking place over the last week, there was a lot of exciting baseball played by GLC alumni. Meanwhile, with the MiLB season well underway, GLC’s pro alumni have continued to get better as the days go on.

Highlights

Ari Sechopoulos - College of Charleston

Sechopoulos and Charleston performed all season long; however, the season came to an end in the semi-finals of the CAA Tournament. Sechopoulos had a big week, bringing his season batting average to .285 and RBI total to 40. The senior ended his final campaign off strongly, capping a tremendous college career. Congratulations to Ari on his great success during his time in Charleston.

Max Wright - Indiana State University

Wright and the Sycamores are moving on to the NCAA tournament. Wright’s two-home run week is a big reason why. The senior slugged all of 2021, hitting .306 with 16 home runs, and deservingly advances to the Nashville Regional, as Indiana State is the number three seed.

Jake Wilson - Liberty University

Liberty is moving on to the Knoxville Regional, coming off a strong performance this last week. Wilson earned himself a spot on the ASUN All-Tournament Team thanks to his solid play. He did it on both slides, picking up four hits, while flashing the leather as well.

Noah Myers - University of South Carolina

Myers and the Gamecocks will be hosting one of the NCAA Tournament Regionals. So be sure to follow the Wyoming, Ont. native on the big stage in South Carolina.

Daniel Warkentin - Eastern Michigan University

Warkentin (Leamington, Ontario) ended his season with a four-hit week which included his third home run of the season. After arriving at Eastern Michigan from Parkland College, Warkentin spent a pair of years with the Eagles, performing well both years. Congrats to Daniel on his college success.

Eric Cerantola - Mississippi State University

Mississippi State is the number one seed in the Starkville Regional. Keep your eyes out for the Kitchener, Ont. native.

Owen Diodati - University of Alabama

Diodati came up huge on multiple occasions this past week with clutch RBI hits. His game-winner on Wednesday sealed an extra-inning victory. The Tide enter the Ruston Regional as the number three seed in search of an Omaha appearance.

Matt Duffy - Canisius College

Duffy’s outing to open the playoffs for Canisius was one to remember. He threw a complete game, striking out ten, in a huge 4-1 victory. The moment wasn’t too big for the Freshman right-hander, as he came through in a big way for the Golden Griffins. Watch and enjoy:

Lawson Burnett - Northwood University

Congratulations to Burnett on his college success as he finished his senior campaign with a .300 batting average after picking up two hits on Thursday. The London, Ont. native made the most of his at-bats during his senior season, contributing to a strong 29-win team.

Mat Szabo - Angelo State University

Szabo went four scoreless innings on Friday, helping Angelo State to an NCAA DII South-Central Regional Championship. The season has been nothing short of excellent for Szabo, and ASU will look to continue their magical season in the D2 College World Series.

Adam Hall - Aberdeen IronBirds (A+)

Hall has been on a hot streak this past week. The right-handed hitting infielder is hitting .467 in his last four games, picking up a couple of doubles while adding his sixth stolen base of the season.

Michael Brettell - Springfield Cardinals (AA)

Brettell, a 23-year-old right-hander, is off to a strong start in his third professional season. After pitching to a 2.84 in High-A, he was promoted to Double-A and has since gone 7.1 innings, allowing just two runs.

Matt Warkentin - Chicago Cubs Organization

A big congratulations to Matt on signing with the Chicago Cubs. The Leamington, Ont. native begun the 2021 year with the Missoula Paddleheads of the Pioneer League and graduated from Xavier University.
